Healthcare is most effective when it is personal, accessible, and built on lasting relationships.
Inspired by Diahann Carroll's groundbreaking role as Julia—the first African American woman to portray a professional nurse in a leading television role—I first imagined a career in healthcare at the age of five. Seeing a healthcare professional who looked like me led me to believe that I, too, could pursue a career in healthcare.
For more than a decade, I’ve cared for patients in hospitals, communities, and their homes. Early in my career, I saw how difficult it could be for many patients—especially older adults and those with chronic illnesses—to access the healthcare they needed. Transportation challenges, mobility limitations, and long wait times often stood in the way.
That’s why I started providing house calls through my practice, Nurse Practitioner in Family Health Health Care Solutions, PLLC. Caring for patients in their homes reinforced something I had always believed: healthcare works best when it meets people where they are.
Over time, I noticed a similar challenge among working adults. Many employees delay preventive care because of busy schedules and limited access to convenient healthcare services. Many small-business owners would like to offer traditional health insurance, but its cost can make doing so difficult. That observation inspired the creation of Dr. NP Workforce Health & Wellness Program, designed to give small business employees more direct access to preventive and primary care.
Recognizing that individuals face many of these same barriers, I also created the Individual Health & Wellness Plan to provide uninsured and underinsured adults with a predictable self-pay option for preventive and primary care.
Today, whether I’m caring for a homebound adult, supporting a family caregiver, helping an individual access preventive care, or partnering with employers to support their workforce, my goal remains the same: to make healthcare more accessible, personal, and compassionate—wherever you are.
